Duromine and Health Issues

Thanks so much. I am on medication yes - Epilum 300mg twice a day, will find out what they about this.
Weight loss not easy at all - tried so many things :) will definitely use this forum for support and guidance.

I really want to congratulate you on your weight lost to date. :laughing:. I often stop by the forum now and again just to read people's posts and also my own posts following my own duromine journey last year. I very rarely make any comments anymore but I just wanted to reach out to you and give you a virtual hug :).
I understand your pain somewhat. I don't have early onset osteo but I do have Rheumatoid Arthritis. And I know they are cause by very different conditions but arthritis pain is arthritis pain and it's debilitating and I am so sorry you are going through this pain. . I wrote a massive blog on it last year at the request of a fellow forum member to get insight on what diet changes I made to not only lose weight but things I did to also get my Rheumatoid into remission.

I just wanted to leave you with a piece of information my arthritis specialist told me that might just help you if you're ever feeling like you need some personal encouragement for your current situation..

"For every 1 kg of body weight we put on, it is the equivalent of FOUR KILOS for our knees to support and carry around!!!!"

That's right! 4 kilos!!
That's hard enough for anyone at the best of times but for an arthritis sufferer it may be the difference of actually being able to walk at all!!

On this fact alone, I'm not surprised your pain has lessen and I wish you every encouragement to fulfill and continue your weight lost journey to a healthier and happier you xx

Hi - sorry for the late reply
I have been on Duromine 15mg for 12days now
So far so good, cant say what I have lost exactly - however when I went to doc last week for him to make sure blood pressure etc was okay I had dropped 4kgs
The first two or three days I had to adjust - not eating as much defiantly meant less insulin so my sugars wouldn't drop too much. I have really been stricked and ensured I eat three times a day even if it is not a lot. I have 2-3l water a day.
I didn't have problems sleeping - as I take it at 4.30am every morning
Only other side effect I have had is a dry mouth which I am happy about as that ensures I get in all my water. I also chew gum to help with that.
Will keep you posted. I am only going to use it for two months and doc said possibly only every second day next month. I have skipped two days to see the difference in the 12 day period and on both days I did get hungry but still remained stricked to try and ensure I can train myself for when I am no longer taking the Duromine :)
So all in all I am happy :)
 
Heeeey! So happy to hear from you and so happy for your progress and attitude. It’s great that you know you only have two month and will need to use all this time to the maximum, to build new eating habits, so that you don’t need to use Duromine ever again =))

Did you make any changes in your physical activity level? You’re going great! Keep it up! High five
 
Hi Muldery, I have just started my second course of Duromine and have lived with Epilepsy for the past 31 years. I have not noticed any affects on my condition thus far.

Commenced taking Duromine on Wednesday 1/11, after many months of hormonal imbalances and acute weight gain of 7.5kilos in 7-8weeks. Currently on hormone tablets in attempt to stabilise bleeding from growths found on my endometrium with awaiting an operation. Start weight 70kg
I am now in the over weight category for the first time in my life
I know that I am not an obese person. However Duromine is not just for obese people, it is for people with co-morbidities as well - where you can have a rapid, uncontrollable weight gain from other contributing medical circumstances. Hormone tablets have many vast effects on the body and in conjunction it also makes you want to eat, without being able to stop, even when you've reached the point where you feel incredibly sick and full - you just want to eat more.
So after consult with the doctor, we have decided to trial this for one month and continue if it helps whilst we resolve well the women's business issues - that is SPECIFICALLY to help me learn to control and take charge of the hunger by the assistance of suppressing the appetite.
To point out I am a French/ Sicilian woman, I already had and have always had an insatiable large appetite, I love my food, wine and liquors. Size 8-10, small/average boobs with a rounder bottom like most of us have.- Obviously I am not that at the moment!! I have burst through my work pants (they actually ripped whilst I was wearing them - in front of everyone) and shirts and am currently wearing my pregnancy skirt from 8 years ago, as its the only thing left that fits - and its tight!!
This will be interesting! But I wanted to take part in this, as many women go through these changes in life around the age of 40 and above, through many unexpected medical experiences which depresses a womans confidence. So to the women!

Oh.. I already commented on your blog, without reading the thread… So sorry when the weight gain happened because of the meds… it’s so disheartening… I am glad though that you have a supportive doctor and I hope that he will monitor your condition closely.

Food diary – love it! in fact, everything you listed as your weight loss plan is great! I just didn’t notice anything about increasing the level of activity. It doesn’t have to be grueling workouts… at least taking 30-40 minute walks will work miracles. Hormone weight gain is usually not that easy to defeat, so you do need to invest as much as you can in this weight loss journey…

Hi all, a little background 2 years ago I started duromine and was on it for roughly 3 months and it worked well for me and i didn't put the weight back on and lost a total of 27kgs. The last 6 months I've completely gone off track and due to pcos the weight came back faster than I blinked. I started exercising again last month and was doing well but 2 weeks ago I broke my foot and I'm now in a cast for at least 6 weeks with no weight bearing and then a boot for another 6 learning to walk on it again until It comes off with light exercise once its healed in 3months.

I am now very worried I'm going to stack on the weight and can only do so many arm exercises. I' debating on going on duromine while in this state but unsure if it will have much affect, I only want to stop the weight gain and if I lose a little before walking again that would make it alot easier for me to recover when I start putting weight on my foot again.
 
Hello! I am so sorry about your foot. No one can tell for sure, whether you will get any weight loss while not exercising. Still, you can do the arm exercises and up your heart rate, which should trigger fat burning. If you stick to a good eating routine and increase your water intake, and do the exercises a couple of times a day, I think, it might work… at least, I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Best of luck, and please, tell us all how you go.
 
I'm in a moon boot now and up walking around bare foot at home, I decided not to start duromine and see how I go on my own for a month or 2 and if I'm having trouble I'll start taking it. Right now I'm going to the gym and doing upper body weights and watching what I eat. I had a reassessment with my gym trainer and im now at 118kg highest I've ever been I'm hoping to lose 20kgs this year if I do it without the duromine let' see how I go.

Today I started Duromine 30mg. My doctor has given me two months worth.

I have tried gym and “healthy eating” for 5 months with no loss. I now have gallstones and I have a lot of belly fat and it makes it difficult to put shoes on or cut toenails and went to the doctors for help.

I was on duromine 3 years ago with no diet and exercise and lost 5kg so hoping with gym daily I can loose more.

I was in the same boat. Followed a diet of 1200 calories, and did cardio and weights 4 - 5 times a week, and the weight refused to shift. If anything, my weight started to increase. Duromine has been my saving grace!

I definitely suggest a food and exercise diary, be that a written journal or an app like My Fitness Pal. Take it with you to each weigh in, so that your doctor can see what you are doing.

I hope that you get the results you're looking for, and the health problems start to disappear :)

My food diary has been the most important thing in learning how many calories I was actually eating and drinking! It also gave me fantastic insight into the breakdown of carbs, fats and sugars and from these I have been able to tailor my eating around what works for me.

@Amanda30 cant wait to read your updates :)

Not eating enough food is my problem. Even before duromine. I’ve not eaten breakfast for 15-20 years. Lunch is only small (high school I never ate lunch) and dinner is meat and veg or just veg.

Would adding in a good protein drink benefit? Dieticians try to give me meal plans containing egg which I can’t eat, red meat, not a fan, I don’t have any breads in my diet, I don’t snack/eat sugary lollies.

Really don’t know what to do with the food department so considering ordering “lite n easy” dinners
