Hi all,
My name is Nicole, I am 26 and 154cm tall. I came across this forum as I researched Duromine and I am love reading about everyone's experience and results. I have always had body issues... I have never really opened up about my experience, thoughts and feelings about this, so I thought this may be a good place to start! My mum is an ex-prima ballerina so her whole life she has been weight and body obsessed and I feel like it has rubbed off onto me. I am the oldest of 3 girls and I have grown up comparing myself to my mum and my 2 sisters. Many years ago, my dad came up with a competition - whoever lost the most weight in a month would get $100 (back then this was a lot of money)... I won! I went from a size 12/14 to a size 8/10. This was a good and bad outcome - good because I lost weight and started moving into the healthy weight range for my height, bad because I started weighing myself every day, often many times a day, really messing with my mind. It got so bad that I never went out because I was worried about what people thought of me, and I was too anxious to socialize - I ended up seeing the doctor to monitor my body and a psychologist to work on my mentality. One of the hardest times of my life was when one of my closest gfs took her own life after struggling with anorexia for years... I then took a stand and decided to stop weighing myself and focus on being fit and healthy rather than a certain number on the scale or in clothes. I started creating fitness goals such as running a half marathon (which I have done twice now, I got one more to do this year)! I got engaged in April this year and after we set our wedding date to March next year, I felt that I was in a good enough mental state to work on loosing some weight again... even though I feel like I have always been healthy, I decided to change my eating habits to high protein, very low carbs to allow my body to get into ketosis... after 2 weeks nothing had changed, whilst my fiancé lost about 7kgs in 2 weeks. My old habits started coming back, so I decided to go to the doctor to get some guidance. He said that because I was very close to my optimum weight and as I exercise a lot and eat healthy already I will find it hard to loose weight... he put me onto duromine to help me get a kick start... I have not been able to open up to anyone about duromine and felt like I needed to confirm my results!

Here are my results after 2 weeks;

SW: 60kg
CW: 58kg
Weight loss week 1: 1.5kg
Weight loss week 2: 0.5kg

Waist week 1: 72cm
Waist week 2: 69cm
Hips week 1: 85.5cm
Hips week 2: 83cm
Bicep week 1: 30cm
Bicep week 2: 29cm
Thigh week 1: 54cm
Thigh week 2: 53cm
Calf week 1: 35.5cm

Hi everyone.. In coming up to my second week on duromine, I switched from the 15 mg to the 30 mg about 3 days ago!
I have lost 3 kilos already.
I have been diagnosed with thyroid disease and have struggled so much to lose weight. I had a baby 9 months ago, lost my baby weight and an extra 8 kilos from diet and excercise and then just completely pleateu'd.
Months went on and I could not lose any more!!
So my doctor prescribed me duromine hoping that over 3 months I could lose the rest of my weight, about 15 kg to my goal weight (now 12 kg!)
I'm just soo worried once I stop taking it that I'll gain weight again and it will be about of my control because of my thyroid as I eat well and exercise..
Hoping to find someone else in my situation who hasn't put the weight back on! And even positive stories of people keeping their weight off after duromine :)
 
Hey its also my second week on duromine and I went from 30mg to 15mg one of my concerns was also gaining back the weight as that is all you read when you google some of the questions but if you go to the forums and you go on sucess stories and motivations and click on the thread goal I think the girl's name is Grace her story quite motivate me to ensure me that you can keep it of. Well worth the read...hope it helps
 
Today i have been on duromine 40 mg for 2 weeks. Still not feeling any extra energy. I had a bit of constipation but got some medicine from the doctor which fixed that.
My periods came 8 days early even though im on the pill.
I have now lost 7.4 kgs in 2 weeks still have alot to go but slowly getting there.

Starting weight was 116.9 kgs
Today i weigh 109.5 kgs

I dont really have a goal weight just want to be able to fit into a size 12 lol

Had a bit of a depressing day yeaterday went shopping with my best friend while she tried on dresses for her wedding and walking into all the skinny girl shops (my friends a size 12) felt like everyone was starring at me made me feel ashamed as i have extremely big legs (all over) yes i have a bit of a belly and fat arms but my legs are worse. Anyway was glad when yesterday was over.
 
Stay positive!!!! 7.4kgs is a FANTASTIC loss. That's about 8 1litre bottles of soft drink. Thats the weight of a Cocker Spaniel!!! A whole dog!! Ha!
You are well on the way and have lost SO MUCH since only a fortnight ago. Don't let the days like yesterday get you down... No point looking back to your old body, just think ahead and focus on your new one and the health that comes with it! You'll go great! I know it!

When I went on Duromine I had a full lot of blood tests done and it came back that I have low thyroid. I am still waiting to see the endocrinologist (mid Nov) but I have lost over 20 kilos since then, on the D. My doctor says that once I go to the specialist, I may need to go on thyroid hormones and they will help with the weight loss too.
My son and my husband both have low thyroid and though my husband is solid my son is tall and skinny. I can't really say how you will go with keeping the weight off. I suppose, with the knowledge that you have a thyroid condition, you should carefully monitor any weight fluctuations and if you go above a weight that you deem too high, get on to it before it becomes a problem.

Great work that's a huge loss for 2 weeks!!
I've just finished my 2nd week.. I was on 15 mg for the first week and then started 30 but I have only lost 2 kg. Can I ask what you've been eating?? :)
 
For breakfast i have a banana, lunch is grilled chicken sometimes i add some mixed vegies. And dinner is lite jelly occasionally i have some lite biscuits with a small amount of vegemite or i have 3 boiled eggs. Once a week i eat a piece of steak. For a snack i have an apple. I also drink 6 x 600ml bottles of water a day
 
I absolutely agree with Smick.
Rhi0601 you need to monitor your weight fluctuations after you stop the pills, because you will never get extra weight in a day or two, it takes years. Just keep eating healthy and continue your exercises, and I believe you will not gain those kilos you've lost.
 
Well, if I thought week one was challenging, week two was even more interesting!

I had to re-structure my eating schedule to include slightly more calories on my big workout days, which was a bit challenging mentally. Despite knowing all the theory behind it, my brain sometimes can't compute "We need to eat more on these days so we can complete the tasks that will cause us to lose more long term". I just gotta face the facts: being too weak to work out is only ever going to do more harm than good.

It took a few days of getting used to, but I've now got the hang of cycling calories around my workout schedule. I still never exceed 1200 per day, and when I'm adding up my calories I always take the caloric value of my meals and round the number up to the nearest 50, so I can always be definitely sure I'm not eating too much.

In the second half of the week I had a bit of a meltdown because I gained 300 grams after losing 900 in the first half of the week. I wasn't kind to myself upon seeing that number on the scale (punished myself by working out too hard two days in a row, and didn't allow adequate recovery time) and was generally a big ball of stress until my period arrived yesterday, a week early (I'm putting the irregularity down to hormonal changes from diet and exercise). Silly me! I'd been beating myself up over pre-menstrual bloating!

So now I'm in a bit of a pickle. My heart rate monitor that I wear when I exercise is telling me that I should take 65 hours to recover from the brutal workouts I put myself through on those two days that I was upset about gaining, but I feel like I should still exercise so as not to waste my time on D. Theoretically I should pay attention to what it says, because muscle growth and fitness gains happen during recovery rather than during the workout, but for some reason I feel really guilty about the idea of taking two full days to rest. Perhaps I'll do something light today instead of my usual. I don't know yet.

Anyway, this morning I weighed in again, and I did end up having a loss this week. Not as much as I'd have liked, and I certainly don't think it's enough for the amount of effort I put in diet and exercise-wise especially after those two super-brutal days, but a loss is a loss. Here are the numbers:

Starting Weight (18 January 2015): 103.8kg
Last Week's Weight (25 January 2015): 99.1kg
Current Weight (1 February 2015): 97.6kg
Change This Week: -1.5kg
Total Weight Lost: 6.2kg


Realistically it's a fairly good loss, I just don't know if the extra effort with the additional exercise is reflected in that number though, since 1.3kg of that 1.5 is accounted for in my calories for the week. Maybe there's more being masked by the fact I've got my period? I don't know. It'd be nice, but I'm not getting my hopes up, heh.

Now that all the stress over the bloating fiasco is over, I think I've got a good system laid out for my diet, all that remains is deciding between two options for exercise: Either I can keep the intensity reasonably high and only work out every second day, or I can lower the intensity and continue to exercise 6 days a week. As tempting as it is to just continue pushing my body to its absolute limits, I have to remember that I'm not as fit as I want to be yet, and that fitness doesn't happen overnight... I just don't know which option to choose yet.

Anyway, that's all from me this week!

Might be a bit late for advice? But for what it's worth... First step - take a really big, deep breath and RELAX. High intensity exercise every second day gives your fitness and muscles a chance to recouperate and rebuild without overdoing it. Obviously the dizzy spell you mentioned would have caused some reassessment of your plans? How about Pilates/yoga or gentle swimming/walking on your 'rest' day? Once you are fit enough for high intensity exercise everyday it'll become routine and you sound very motivated to continue with this :) Secondly... STOP obsessing over the scales! Weigh yourself once a week (if you must) at the same time, same clothes etc. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day, not to mention monthlies. Judge weight loss by how your body feels - is your breathing better? Do your clothes feel less tight? Are others complimenting you on how happy and invigorated you seem? 6kg loss is nothing to sneeze at and very good for only a few weeks. Losing weight too quickly is not healthy and is not sustainable. Hope you're doing well now. How about an update?

Just want to share my experience so far.
Am taking 30mg duromine. 2 months worth. On day 9 currently.

Day 1:
Really excited to try. Ate a pill at 630am and went back to sleep. Woke up at 3pm. Wasn't hungry at all. Had a bowl of tofu vegetable soup at 5pm.

Day 2: Same thing. Popped the pill at 630am. Wasn't hungry still. But really thirsty. Went back to sleep, as usual. Woke up at 1pm. Went out for movie and some shopping and had dinner at 10pm. A couple of vegetables cos... Wasn't hungry.

Day 3: Ate the pill at 6am. Had half a chicken breast meat and an egg for lunch. For dinner, I had a gathering so I ate half a crab pincer, 2 pieces of fried chicken wing, a piece of pork rib and 2 spoonful of tofu.

Day 4: Pill at 730am. Had a hard boiled egg for lunch. Dinner was fish curry and rice. Yeah. Had gathering again -.- Had a shot of liquor as well. Tried my best to avoid drinking but can't help it.

Day 5: Pill at 7am. Had half a chicken breast meat and 2 hard boiled egg for lunch.

Day 6: Ate pill at 8am. Had half a chicken breast meat and tofu during lunch. 5 spoonful of chicken and corn for dinner.

Day 7: 830am. Had a bowl of vegetable soup for lunch. And 4 cups of beer at night (sigh, I know). As well as grilled chicken and beef for dinner.

Day 8: 6am pill. Felt guilty. Took a 2nd pill at 4pm. Had half a chicken breast meat during dinner.

Day 9: 7am pill. Steamed 2 egg and tofu for breakfast/lunch.

Water I drink daily: Japanese green tea and water. Lots of them. Thankful that I'm not a fan of anything sweet/anything that contains sugar since young.

Side effects:
Dry mouth.

I already have quite severe anxiety before taking duromine and I get panic attack every now and then. I had depression twice but have recovered from them. So.......

I think duromine sort of increase my anxiety level a little.... It definitely is affecting my mood, like I'm getting teary and paranoid more often than usual, but it's still under control.

My heart rate varies. Sometimes, it is as low as 65bpm, sometimes it can go up till 128bpm.

I think thats about it if I ignore the pain I felt on my upper left chest on day 4/5. It went off after about 18 hours so I guess it should be fine. And I've no idea what may be the cause of it. It wasn't the first time I felt that kind of pain, so I wouldn't say it is definitely duromine's fault for it.


Weight loss so far: 6KG.

I have just one question for you: Why did you take 2nd pill on day 8?? One pill per day only!!! It is not safe, you are risking to get insomnia and there is no difference between the effects. If you think that double dose will increase your appetite suppression, you are wrong. Read the leaflet please, it says take only one pill per day. Sometimemes if you are prescribed 15mg and the doctor decides to increase the dose, you may take two pills to make it 30mg altogether, but in your case...Actually this may cause severe side effects. So I am worried about you o_O

So second week done and dusted. Stuck to the diet completely by the book. 3 x optifast shakes and 2-4 cups of veggies per day. Hand on heart I haven't cheated! I just want to really emphasise that because when I've done diets before I've always cheated. But was always in denial and never understood why I wasn't losing weight. It's all a mental mind game you play against yourself!! I'm pretty proud that I've made it this far and not cheated once! I'm finally taking ownership and doing it right!

No real side affects except for dry mouth. And I get hot every now and then.

Ok so first day back at the gym today. I'm on somewhat normal hours at work this month so I'm going to do early workouts! Going to stick to strength training and Pilates to tone up.

So weigh day is Thursday's for me. I wasn't go to weigh today (as its that time of the month) but I couldn't help myself! 2kg down this week! So stoked with that! It says the second week is a good indicator of what you will lose on a weekly basis when sticking to a strict diet. Soo I'm super pleased! That's a total of 6 kg in 2 weeks!!

When you see results like this it motivates you to stick to it and push through the hard times. Anyone that is struggling (which I do everyday) know that it the result at the end will be so worth it! Keep pushing. WE CAN DO IT!
 
Sooooo.... Here are some pics! So first pic was 12 weeks ago. The day I started boot camp. I tired duromine 4 weeks ago to help with the food side. I stopped taking them 2 weeks ago because I got into a really good routine with food. My exercise is on track too! Im losing weight each week! Still a fair bit to go but pretty happy with the results so far!!

You did a great job, I can see your stomach is so flat and you look fit.

hi everyone :)

I've been on duromine now for nearly two weeks. I'm a 31 year old female who had a baby a year ago and have battled to shake off around 10kg, and am getting tired and upset from the occasional comments from people about retaining the post baby weight. I have also developed hip bursitis due to the weight gain and can't even sleep on my side anymore at night. My doctor said it will get better with weight loss and I can't consider baby number 2 with this awful pain.

Starting weight: 85.5
Current weight: 82
Goal weight: 73 (want to be at the top end of the healthy weight range)

The majority of weight I lost was in the first week. In the last week however I have lost a mere few hundred grams, even though I have continued to take duromine, eat well and do my usual walking.

I have always suffered from premenstrual syndrome for about a week of each month where I become extremely bloated and become more hungry and crave chocolate, cakes, biscuits, anything sweet and comforting!

Just wondering if anyone else has had pms slow their weight loss and experienced increased cravings and no weight loss during this time? I have resisted all cravings but am hoping it's the usual bloating slowing my weight loss?

You have nothing to worry about, you did a great job - lost 3kg already yoo-hoo! For two weeks it is amazing loss I must say. Speaking about PMS - yes, the weight loss slows down because your body retains much water and hence no loss. I used to crave junk foods and sweets during my PMS too, but still you can find some compromise here - choose instead of chocolate bar something simple like cottage cheese with teaspoon of honey and nuts, or make a hot chocolate out of cacao powder, sugar and milk.

You can also bake some oat cookies. I take an oatmeal flour, add some sugar, nuts, raisins (optional), an egg, vegetable oil and bake it in the oven. Believe me these contain less calories than cookies, cakes and other sweets from the store. Besides, homemade yummies contain only natural ingredients (well depends on what you put in them))), but all that chocolate and ice cream are based on low-quality palm oil. A little bit of cooking from good old Kate :laughing::laughing::laughing:

Step by step you will get there, just be patient and go on, you are doing great. Walk and play with your baby - it burns so many clories! Since you have some hip problem, you can do some stretching, yoga exercises, or simply walk more than you usually do.

P.S. People who are morbidly obese lose much more weight much faster, but people like you - who only have 10 or so kilograms to lose, lose slower. That is the nature of our bodies. Especialy the female body. It needs a certain amount of fat tissue to be able to produce enough female hormones and hence the egg cells.
