Just realised I posted this in the wrong thread!

I am new to this, took my first 15mg today... Just wondering if anyone else on here has a lapband. Have had the band for 10 years... Went from 107kg to 59kg, back up to 90kg... Not happy so dr suggested I tired of his as a kick start back down. Never taken pills before so quite apprehensive ..

Ok. Have not been on here for awhile. Stopped taking duromine from end of December until 9/3. Just wanted to see if I was able to sustain my weight loss....and I did. I am down to 93kg. I have started back on the pills again to give myself a bit of a boost...lol Even though its 93kg I have dropped 2 dress sizes and I am fitting into clothes I have not worn in 7 years. So my duromine trip has been a success so far. I probably would have lost more....but....I love to socialise on the weekends and decided from the get go I was not giving up this aspect of my life......
Not looking forward to the side effects but as the saying goes "No pain no gain"...lol
Cheers...

One week on and I have lost 1.6 kg.. Thought I might have lost more in the first week.. But.. A loss is a loss, if I lose 1.5 kg a week for the next 10 weeks I will be very happy.

Guessing there is no one on here that has a lapband too?

Hi Brizzy,

Well done on lossing 1.6kg!! That's awesome :)

First thing I did when starting Duromine was not compare what I was losing to what others were losing.o_O

I might be wrong, but I think there's a correlation between those who loss MASSIVE amounts in the first week or 2 and never post again to those who lose smaller amounts each week but keep it up and keep posting week after week. I'm not meaning EVERYONE, but a distinct proportion from what I've read.

Keep up the great work and you will be sure to reach your goal ;)

Xx

Hi Brizzy,

I'm new here and I have a lap band, last weekend I had a good read through this forum and another and decided to go see my doc about getting on duromine. I stepped on the scales after 2 days on 30mg and I have lost 2kg.

I agree with you a loss is a loss! If the 15mg isnt cutting it after a month go back to the docs and ask for the higher dose.

I think i am one of the lucky ones, barely any side effect and sleeping well. Get the sweats now and then and slight dry mouth.

After 4 days i'm happy with it, would prefer if it gave me more of an energy boost... I'm still ready for bed by 8.30pm. Saying that I am feeling less "tired" and a bit more energised and focused in the day but not sure if thats because my eating habits & therefore blood sugar is better.

With regard to the band, I had little success, have had it for about 6 years and to be honest in the 6 years I've lost a total of about 10kg. I'm at the point I no longer get any feeling of satiety and the band restricts all the wrong foods! I got a referal to the surgeon to get the band out with the possibility of getting the sleeving done down the track if the duromine and my own efforts don't work. So I am giving this a real go for the next three months the doc will prescribe it too me. (3 months in every 12 months I've been told)

I'm a bit worried about after the three months, but hopefully I'll have changed my bad habits by then.

Glad to see a felow bander here :)

Oh.. How lovely to have someone else in my situation.. I have had my band for 10 years, pretty happy initially... Think 15mg might be a little low, but had a fill at the same time, so willing to give it a month before going. I have been told to have the sleeve I would have to have the band out for 3 months first.

Have to say I am eating better, as I am not 'fancying/craving' ice cream, chips, choc... Etc.. So very much hoping the feelings last.. no real side effects apart from dry mouth which is not too bad..

Will be great to keep this thread going with our progress..

Yeah, I did a bit of reading about the band to sleeve revision and they usually do it in 2 ops to give your stomach time to go back to normal and also look at if scar tissue etc is an issue.

The sleeving is a last resort... even then I think I'll still struggle to make the decision as I figure if I cant make it on the duromine/healthy eating & excersise whats really going to be different with the sleeve? If my minds not there or even if it happened to be a physiological issue (pretty sure its not) having the sleeve will be a waste.

Its been 5 days and a bit of a rollercoaster, days are ok craving & mood wise, night times another story, I seem irritable, lethargic and am getting obsesive about food.

I have been using my calorie king account to track my calories, water & excersise daily and I've been really strict on keeping the food log to see my real calorie intake. I'm starting out at 1,200 cal a day and have managed to stick to it (mostly). The excersise I struggle with. Gotta try and force myself to start going for a morning walk.

So 5 days in and I've lost 1.5kg (put on 0.5kg in two days!!... Not happy Jan! But I'm putting it down to the start of the time of the month I retain a bucket liad of water :( )

My Stats:

SW: 93.5
CW: 92

That's such wonderful news you were able to keep the weight off whilst not on Duromine. It's so encouraging when I read about people successfull acheiving that. Well done ;)

hi! I'm 24 years old, 174 cm tall, and from July 2012 to May 2013 I lost 36 kg, going from 103 to 67kg. I did this by following a vegan diet, doing a lot of exercise and extreme calorie restriction :(

unfortunately at that point I was having a lot of body dysmorphia issues and still saw an overweight person in the mirror. this made me really disheartened, and I have been gradually gaining weight since then, until I stepped on the scales and saw 100 kg.

I'm hoping that my prescription of duromine, along with the guidance of a counsellor, helps me lose weight and become healthy again without it consuming almost every waking thought like it did a few years ago.

I've started on my first pill today, and I know it's premature, but so far, so good. I haven't felt hungry, which is miraculous to me, and was able to walk around a shopping centre for 8 hours without any complaints other than sore feet.

Wish me luck in my journey! I'll definitely be documenting it here, either in this thread or in the experience forum, and keeping you up to date. I might update my measurements kind of frequently but will be aiming not to weigh myself more often than every 5-7 days, as that was previously too much of a habit of mine.

I'm so glad this forum exists! thank you for a place to share my experiences :)

Hey Shae! Im in the same boat as you, went from 100kgs and loosing weight till I hit 48kgs in less than half a year, and ballooned right back up to 118kg because of self loathing body issues

Ive got a dietitian and a counselor this time, so hopefully I'll be able to do it right. I also just started duromine too :)

aw yay! power to us haha. I hope you do well and I did end up weighing myself this morning, haha, the temptation was too great after all the people talking about how much they lose on the first day

I was 100.1 yesterday and 97.3 this morning, probably just water weight at this point because I didn't eat anything salty

Lol. I weighed myself too. Im on the 30mg one, so hopefully it works like everyone elses cause I think most people are on the 40g one

Hey in my personal non medical opinion I think that there are a couple of different ways duromine works, over 100kg the weight will come off fast and then steady... Under 100 and poor diet and portions the weight will also come off fast until a well balanced diet is in place and then steady, and then people who are overweight /obese who generally ate alright before duromine probably lacked a little on the energy who are just in a steady weight loss from day one, may seem slow but it's happening in a healthy way for the body.... and in no way is my opinion an insult to any weight range everyone's life circumstances are different and I respect everyone for their reasons to loose weight with or without duromine ... you got this and good on you

Last day on duramine..and am happy to say i am now 88kg...started at 103.4. Its been a long journey but it has been worth it. Still have 5kg to my target. I am never going back!!!!

Hi, so I was prescribed 60x 30mg duromine. My Dr suggested I take one every morning for 2 weeks, have a 1 week break, then repeat until I finish all. I'll see.

I'm 169cm. I forgot to weigh myself this morning but I guessing 60kg. Will update tomorrow.

Please don't tell me how it's unhealthy and bash me about this because I'm not overweight.
My Dr prescribed it to me and is monitoring me until I reach around 53kg. I have personal reasons for this which I may explain later or towards the end of my journey- which is why it is approved by my Dr. Feel free to PM me if you are really curious for why it has been approved

I'll try posting my daily experience, food/calories, exercise and weight...

So without further ado Day 1:
Food:
Toast (110), Avocado+PB (80), Nut bar(150), Kiwifuit (50), Pizza bits (100), ice cream (100), Fish (150), licks and bites here and there (50)
=890

Exercises:
Walked about 8km today over the course of 2 hours. The rest of the day, I was on my couch

Experience:
I was a little jittery. Not overly energetic, but I felt like I wanted to do something desperately because I was so jittery and sort of anxious. Don't know if this is due to duromine, but as I started walked it felt awesome and I didn't want to stop. I could've kept going and time passed soo quickly ! Like I got lost in thoughts and before I knew it, I walked 8km!
Hunger wise.. I ate most my food at breakfast before taking duromine. After taking it, I didn't feel like eating. I was extremely thirsty. I had bouts of hunger pangs throughout the day but I was able to control it. Normally, I could eat family boxes for 4 and today I could stop myself. I don't know if it works in my appetite yet because I am so hungry as I'm typing this. All I know is I don't feel like eating as much even though I' still get hungry

It's 1am, I want to sleep. Fingers crossed I get sleep because I didn't in the past.

Ps: should I make a blog of this or post on this thread?

Hi There,

I'm also new to the forum. On my 4th day. Sounds like we got similar side effects. I'm told I will eventually get used to it. I also couldn't sleep this past 4 nights, think I'm only getting 2hrs a night.
Sounds like you of to a good start with eating right and exercising.

I know how you feel, I'm 163cm and 66kgs. I get the same judgement without people even knowing my reasons. I have health issues that leaves me no other option but to use Duromine.

On this site we should be there for each other after all aren't we all here for support. Everyone faces their own challenges and we are all different.

If you need some extra support I'm here :) no judements.
I wish you the best on your journey :)
Have a great day!

Hi,
Thank you so much for your support. It's great that we can relate then! What country are you in? It's currently 3.40am here and I still haven't been able to fall asleep. This is only day 1 for me, so the side effect would probably hit me the hardest now. My body feels like it could go for a run but my eyes are dry and tired. Haha.
I hope you are about to get some sleep soon! I'll give it a week and if it doesn't improve, I may get some sleeping pills to help.

Good luck on your journey! Feel free to update here whenever if you like xx

Good Morning,

I'm in South Africa, its 8:30am here. Last night I got 5 hours of sleep! :)
I think my body was just very exhausted after not sleeping for 3 days lol. I didn't get 3 hours last night woke up at 1am and then got 2 more hours from 3 to 5 am.

I try to take my pill at 4 am every morning so that before I sleep I'm not so jittery. I'm not sure if sleeping pills would contridict the effects of Duromine but I'm trying out calming teas such as Lotus leaf or Chrysanthemum. Something that relaxes.
I have a cup or two 1hour to 30mins before I sleep.
So I'm hoping the natural route helps. I do have sleeping pills as I am an insominac now Duromine has made it worse! Lol

I do hope we get some sleep soon, I ve read that the effects get better over time so fingers crossed :)
